Frozen in Silver: The Life & Frontier Photography of P.E. Larson
Published in Hardcover by Ohio Univ Pr (Txt) (March, 1998)
Authors: Ronald T. Bailey and P. E. Larson
Average review score:

Despite the Synopsis...
Don't let the inaccuracies in the on-line synopsis (scathingly detailed by Christenson below) prevent you from acquiring this book. The author has researched and accurately described life in the Klondike/Yukon, and selected great images to accompany his text. The portions dealing with Larss' life outside the Yukon are similarly well done.

Excellent history of the Gold Rush
Excellent reading. Highly recommended to all interested in the gold rush. Although some facts may be incorrect, the majority of the book is very well written.

Synopsis corrections and review.
The synopsis is incorrect about some things. Gold was DISCOVERED in the Klondike river area in 1896 -- not 1898. Although prospectors who had been in the Yukon for years learned about the strike very quickly (and staked the best claims pronto), it took nearly a year for word of the discovery to reach the "outside world" (e.g., the contiguous United States) in a way that captured the public's imagination -- especially when the SS PORTLAND landed in Seattle in July 1897 with the now-famous "Ton of Gold" from the Klondike area. The first stampeders arrived in Alaska in the fall of 1897, followed by thousands soon after. Most stampeders went over the mountains into British Columbia and then the Yukon Territory via Dyea (over Chilkoot Pass) or via Skagway (over White Pass) during the winter of 1897-1898. The synopsis is blatantly incorrect that thousands of stampeders "arrived in blinding snowstorms"; this is absolute nonsense. Arrived WHERE? The bulk of stampeders arrived in Dyea or Skagway. While it does snow there, it does not snow all the time. It rains a lot. To imply that all stampeders arrived ANY where along the Klondike gold rush route in "blinding snowstorms" is unnecessary hype -- and simply not true.

This book provides a well-rounded look into the life of P.E. Larss, especially about his life before and after the Klondike gold rush. Photographs have been well-selected to illustrate his craft and the events he was involved in.

I Love You Rituals
Published in Paperback by Quill (21 November, 2000)
Author: Becky A. Bailey
Average review score:

Finally, positive Nursery Rhymes
I finally found a book with positive nursey rhymes! The author has brilliantly rewritten the familiar old rhymes (which are often negative and scary) in a reframed more positive manner (i.e. three blind mice become three caring mice etc).

The re-written rhymes make this world seem like a more loving and caring place for a child. Children grow up so fast...soon enough they'll be in the "real world". Why not let the little ones enjoy a safe loving place, where everything is good, a little longer? Highly recommend to give children a sense of security and trust. Also, the game ideas are fantastic. You can't go wrong with this book.

I Love Your Rituals
A really great concept. Teaching children through play while building confidence & trust. Lots of fun games to play with your child.

Wonderful book for all kids and moms!
I just purchased this book after having been recommended it by a leading expert on kids with attachment/severe trauma problems. It is wonderful, easy to read and makes much sense from a clinician's and parent's perspective.

I recommend it to all with young children, it is full of nurturing and fun activities with full explanations and rationale. Certainly a must buy for any adoptive/foster parent to increase trust, attachment, and bonding.

Initiation Human and Solar
Published in Paperback by Lucis Publishing Company (June, 1997)
Author: Alice A. Bailey
Average review score:

Vastness of Being
This book was the first written of the 24 books by Alice Bailey. As such, this book addresses some essential spiritual and esoteric ideas. Its theme is that of initiation, or spiritual crisis--moments of spiritual realisation and evolutionary change. In many ways this theme is the centre and essence of all spiritual study, because the spiritual crises, or initiations, that all beings experience are the great moments of their existence and, in many ways, embody and express the purpose and meaning and quality of that existence.

The book also touches on the life of the disciple (person consciously treading the path) and the two main stages of the spiritual path, the later stage being called the Path of Initiation.

The book contains a fair amount of esoteric and technical detail of the processes whereby initiations are undergone. Whilst these technicalities can be evocative and inspiring to some readers, for those who would not find it so, it nevertheless presents an expansive view of the vastness of Life, and the amazing interconnectedness of, and purpose behind, all things living.

Initiation Human and Solar
The various stages along the path of initiation are explained in this book. What is initiation? Who initiates? Who is initiated? Surprising answers are available at the hand of Alice Bailey, answers that are not found in traditional, religious texts nor at the foot of pulpits, although the book does conclude with "An esoteric catechism."

This book is a cornerstone for New Age philosophy.
This book adds a truly remarkable insight into the previously stated but obscure theosophical texts on initiation. It is non-sectarian and inclusive of all people in its approach. It seeks to expound facts about human life and in some sense it is a forerunner of many New Age philosophies and groups' belief systems. It is a crucial key for the modern disciple's understanding.

Jeoffry's Christmas
Published in Hardcover by Farrar Straus & Giroux (14 October, 2002)
Authors: Mary Bailey and Elizabeth Sayles
Average review score:

Cat Tracks
Jeoffry takes us on a wondrous journey through the secretive world of the forest. Readers and listeners will feel the quiet as they track each adventure -- riding, jumping, climbing, wandering and finally flying!

Through a symphony of words and illustrations, Bryant and Sayles take us to that lost land where snow and stars merge, and animals feast like kings.

Children and their parents will love the peaceful and drifty feeling that Jeoffry's Christmas provides, as rhythmic and dream-like images "dance in their heads." Striking a balance between man and nature, Jeoffry leaves us in perfect harmony.

Could be a new classic Christmas story!
Uncommonly beautiful poetry, engaging story, good sentiment for troubled times.

Jeoffry's Christmas by Mary Bryant Bailey
PoetMary Bryant Bailey paints us a beautiful picture of giving in her book Jeoffry's Christmas. Isn't that what Christmas is all about. What a wonderful way to share that idea with children. Elizabeth Sayles soft illustrations compliment Mary's deserving verse.

Pregnancy Day by Day: The Expectant Mother's Diary, Record Book, and Guide
Published in Hardcover by Knopf (October, 1990)
Authors: Sheila Kitzinger, Vicky Bailey, and Shelia Kitzinger

An informative book and personal diary
I bought this book for a girlfriend when she got pregnant. I also bought this book when I became pregnant. It is very informative and not only gives you relevant information for the stage you are currently in, but also gives you photo's of what your body may look like and that of you unborn child. The photo's of real unborn children are fantastic. It gives you an idea of what you can expect, and things that you may like to ask your doctor. I would recommend this to all parents who are expecting. It gives a great insight to the men who miss out so much during pregnancy. By adding your personal information it becomes a real keepsake.

Great reference book
I bought this book for my wife and we both read it often and use it as a reference book. I recommend this book to any expectant mother or father.

Beautiful Artwork, Wonderful Book!
I didn't get this from the bookstore till I was about 3 months pregnant, I only wish I would've gotten it at the very beginning. The artwork in it is beautiful, the pictures of the pregnant women, etc... It is definetely a keepsake I will pass on to my daughter. And when I have more children, I will definetely buy it at the very beginning of the pregnancy. A must have for moms-to-be!

Schaum's Outline of Intermediate Algebra
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill Trade (01 April, 1997)
Authors: Ray Steege and Kerry Bailey
Average review score:

Great Study book
Best math-problem book I have come accross. The book does all different types of problems, and works them out step by step. Highly reccomended.

Good study guide
This book was a great study guide to use when I took Intermediate Algebra last term. I used it a lot with homework assignments because it broke down problems into simpler terms. If you are looking for a good stusy guide, I reccommend this one.

Great Explanations
As a college math instructor, I bought this book to see if would be useful for students who struggle with math. I was completely impressed with the layout of this study guide! The Intermediate Algebra text by Schaum's explains every concept clearly and carefully, from basic solving of linear equations to graphing of lines and simplifying rational expressions. Many texts at this level do not bother to explain all the little things as thoroughly as this one does, but that is EXACTLY what a struggling student needs to see. It also provides several worked-out examples and practice problems in every section. If you are having trouble with Intermediate Algebra, this may be all the "tutoring" you'll need!

Practical Book
This is a practical spiritual book no unlike 12 steps it works. I would also encourage people to read An Encounter With A Prophet for a powerful spiritual book that get's you closer to your higher power.

Finally, a concept that really works.
Bailey has presented easy to grasp ideas that really work for the person in recovery. I have used it on both a personal and professional level and would encourage others to do the same.

Serenity
This book is excellent. You do not have to be recovering from anything for this book to have meaning. Read it several times.

Serving Humanity: A Compilation
Published in Paperback by Lucis Publishing Company (June, 1999)
Author: Alice A. Bailey
Average review score:

Love and Light through the action of Service
This book is a nicely rounded compendium of insights into spiritual relationships, healing, energies, and requirements of the disciple in the "worldly" sense. It was the first AAB book I ever bought many years ago, and I have always taken seriously the intent and energies in its words. If your motive in life is "Selfless Service to Others" you will like this book!

Its content helped reaffirm my own inner attitudes to life, and made me examine my world of associates and inter-relations with all manner of events and circumstances due to my own actions. It helped me see the good in all people and states of affairs. It helped me see there is no such thing as blame, and no such thing as bad luck or good luck. We make our futures, just as we made our past.

These attitudes to induce so-called "right human relations" and "goodwill" are central to the furtherance of "brother/sisterhood" as a "fact in nature", rather than as an ideal. In the AAB books is the concept of a "New Group of World Servers". The NGWS function subconsciously as a "group-force" of spiritual aspirants and disciples. This NGWS idea is expounded in detail in this book. Its hard to fault this kind of positive theory and hard to doubt the truth of this concept. I believe it is a feasible idea that the forces of "will to good" contribute substantially on a world-wide basis, and that our conscious effort to be part of this is a worthwhile pursuit. The book is very interesting, and distils many helpful ideas and techniques for the disciple.

For all those who have a loving heart and intelligent mind!
Serving Humanity is an outstanding collection of wisdom teaching on the Science of Service from the extensive writings of Alice Bailey and the Tibetan Master, Djwhal Khul. Our international spiritual group is using this book as a training manual. We learn that true service is basically the spontaneous outflow of a loving heart and an intelligent mind, produced by the inevitable inflow of spiritual force and not simply by strenuous physical plane activity. The true server lives, serves, works and influences, asking nothing for himself personally.

The service the Tibetan teaches helps awaken a deep sense of brotherhood in humanity. "Work and give, love and think, and aid those groups who are building and not destroying, loving and not attacking, lifting and not tearing down. Work with groups who are not fighting other groups and organizations, no matter how sincere their motive."

I highly recommend this book to anyone who has made contact with the soul, awakened to the universal suffering of humanity, and wants to work for a civilization of greater light and good will.

A guidebook for all lightworkers
I have kept this book by my bedside for a year. It is my guidebook and inspiration for following my heart and creating my life's work. This book covers every aspect of service, what it is and what it isn't. This is a book for all those who want to make a contribution, who are feeling the pull of their soul, and who want to advance on their spiritual path by serving humanity.
